On Sunday September 12th, Whonnock United Church celebrated a fantastic 90th birthday in the presence of past and present members, past ministers and family members of past ministers, as well as many new visitors. They filled the church pews to overflowing and celebrated with a rousing music and worship service. Services were conducted by Rev. Dean Boundy. A great assortment of food, music, and memories was shared by all. Historical records were shown and some members even dressed up in the style of 1914. Brian Collins took lots of great photographs.
Betty Koy co-ordinated a Silent Art Auction and a warm “thank you” goes to those local artists who donated 13 paintings for the auction. We sold nearly all of our 72 commemorative mugs. Members of Whonnock United and our sister church at Webster’s Corners Unit-ed provided food for the event and they gave an extraordinary amount of time and money, to spruce up our buildings and our yard. We are also very grateful for the support given by the Whonnock Community Association, and the Maple Ridge Rotary Club and the kind efforts of all who have helped us to begin meeting the “needs” mentioned on our “prayer list” to restore and upgrade our buildings.
We hope to see you at our worship and fellowship services again, any Sunday at 11:00 a.m. And please drop in on any of our Alpha programs beginning Wednesday, September 15th, from 7:00 - 10:00 p.m.
Jean Ruttan
