Descendants of the original Norwegian community that began to settle in Whonnock in 1887 were on hand for a special occasion—the unveiling of a plaque commemorating the Norwegian Lutheran Church and cemetery, now part of the peaceful Whonnock Cemetery on 96th Avenue, east of 272 nd Street. Mayor Gordon Robson and councilor Al Hogarth did the unveiling, witnessed by councilor Ernie Daykin.

These commemorative plaques are placed by the Community Heritage to draw attention to heritage sites within Maple Ridge. Click here to see the plaque.
